VALDOSTA —
Valdosta police continued searching for an armed gunman Friday evening who robbed a shoe store literally “in broad daylight” earlier in the day.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, one employee and several customers were inside of Payless Shoe Store at 3268 Inner Perimeter Road, according to Valdosta Police Cmdr. Brian Childress.
A black male, concealing his face with clothing, entered the store. He carried a handgun and demanded money.
He took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store on foot. He ran around toward the back of the store, running toward Murray Road. The store is located on a corner of the shopping plaza.
No one was injured in the incident.
After receiving the call, numerous law-enforcement officers patrolled the regions surrounding the Walmart shopping center, where the Payless is located.
Valdosta police investigators and crime-scene technicians worked the scene and are investigating the case.
Again, police describe the gunman only as an African-American male, wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information regarding this case or any other case is asked to call Valdosta Police Department, (229) 293-3145; or can remain anonymous at (229) 293-3091.
