Friday morning marked another chapter in the history of the ESPN TitleTown trophy as it was moved from its temporary location at Valdosta City Hall to its permanent home in the James H. Rainwater Conference Center.
Representatives from Lowndes County Schools, Valdosta City Schools, Valdosta State University and the Conference Center met with Valdosta City Manager Larry Hanson in front of the display booth to remove the trophy and prepare it for transport it to the conference center.
The only glitch in the transfer was when the question was asked if the original box could be found to protect the trophy during transport, which after a few calls was determined that trophy came without the original box.
Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority Chairman Rob Evans took the lead and carried the TitleTown trophy to his automobile for the short drive across Valdosta to deliver the trophy to its new home in a glass enclosed display case donated by S&S Cabinets.
In attendance for the historic transfer of the trophy was Dr. Steve Smith, Lowndes County School Superintendent; Dr. Bill Cason, Valdosta City Schools Superintendent; Valdosta State University Athletic Director Herb Reinhard; Philip Poole, Lowndes County School Board Chair; Bill Love, Valdosta City School board member; Lowndes County Commission Chairman Ashley Paulk; and Evans.
Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center Executive Director Tim Mabe was on hand for the presentation of the trophy at the Conference Center, where it will be displayed for visitors to the community to see.
