VALDOSTA —
A man was pronounced dead Monday at South Georgia Medical Center after losing control of his Yamaha motorcycle while traveling north on Old U.S. Highway 41, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The man was attempting to pass another vehicle before he lost control of the bike, said Trooper First Class Shane Cope of the Georgia State Patrol. Cope said the wreck occurred at roughly 2 p.m. Monday.
“He traveled off of the road and onto the west shoulder,” said Cope. “He traveled a short distance along the shoulder, before striking a pine tree and coming to final rest.
“The driver was ejected from the bike,” said Cope. “I don’t know if he was showing any signs of life when he was transported from the scene, but he was pronounced dead at SGMC at roughly 3 p.m.”
James Lumpkin, 45, died as a result of the incident, Cope said.
The state patrol’s Special Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting Cope in the incident’s investigation.
