VALDOSTA —
A K-9 unit helped Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies track down one of four burglary suspects Thursday morning at a business in the 1000 block of Howell Road, according to a report from officers who responded to an alarm at the location.
Four suspects fled the business in a car as authorities arrived on scene to investigate the distress signal at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday, said Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.
He said his deputies pursued the fleeing vehicle, which later crashed into a building near the intersection of Griffin and Payne Avenue.
The four suspects abandoned the wrecked car and fled from deputies on foot, Prine said. One individual ran into a side mirror on a deputy’s patrol car, but the suspect was able to run off in spite of the damage he’d caused the mirror.
A canine unit was deployed to track the suspects, and Prine said the dog’s efforts enabled authorities to track down one of the suspects just a short distance away from the wrecked get-away vehicle.
Taylor Bell, 19, was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass and interference with government property, reports stated.
Prine said the investigation into the incident is still ongoing and additional arrests will be made as the other suspects are identified.
Anyone having any further information on this incident or any other crime is urged to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, (229) 671-2950.
