VALDOSTA —
VALDOSTA — A homemade explosive device detonated Wednesday killing a Lowndes County teen.
At 10:19 a.m., 911 emergency dispatch received a call from the 4100 block of Tiger Creek Road referring to a young man who had been cut, a report from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office stated. The caller said that her 18-year-old son, William Thomas Lane, had been cut.
Emergency-medical technicians and Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, reports stated.
Deputies spoke with the victim’s mother who said she was sleeping when her son woke her and told her he “was cut,” according to the report
The teen was transported by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, the report stated.
Sheriff’s Office investigators and agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to both the scene and the hospital to collect evidence.
The report stated that preliminary results of the investigation indicate the victim was injured by a small homemade explosive device and died as a result.
The body is being transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.
