VALDOSTA —
VALDOSTA — A suspect was still on the loose Friday evening after authorities responded to a robbery at the Bank of America on the corner of Baytree Drive and Gornto Road.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., a white male with short, dark hair in his mid-30s handed a note to a teller at the bank demanding money with the threat that he would use his weapon if the employee did not comply.
Valdosta Police Department Cmdr. Brian Childress said no weapon was displayed during the robbery.
Customers were inside the bank during the robbery but no one was injured. Only the teller was threatened with violence, according to police sources.
Immediately after receiving an undisclosed amount of money from the teller, the suspect fled eastward on foot across Baytree Road and behind Walgreen’s Pharmacy.
Lowndes County Canine Unit responded and ended near the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Wood Valley Community Center where the trail ended.
Officers had not identified the suspect Friday evening.
