Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place Sunday evening near Valdosta State University.
The incident took place in an apartment complex at 1515 Boone Drive around 7:35 p.m., said Cmdr. Brian Childress with the Valdosta Police Department.
A man knocked on the door of a second-floor apartment, and one of several occupants answered the door, said Capt. Bobbi McGraw of the police department.
The man at the door had a pistol and told the occupant “Don’t yell or scream,” she said.
The person who answered the door did yell, and someone else in the apartment racked a shotgun, causing the man with the pistol to run and get into a nearby SUV, McGraw said.
As he drove off, someone from the apartment fired a shotgun after the SUV, she said. This was the only shot fired during the incident, McGraw said. There is no evidence anyone or anything was hit by gunfire, she said.
There are no suspects at this time and the SUV’s tag number is unknown, she said. Police are investigating whether the apartment’s occupants were acquainted with the gunman, McGraw said.
