VALDOSTA —
A woman died Thursday in a pool at a residence located on Kelly Way.
“The victim did pass away,” said Lowndes County Sheriff’s Lt. Stryde Jones.
Paramedics were first to respond to the scene and two sheriff’s deputies arrived a short time later.
“She was found in the swimming pool and we’re investigating it,” said Jones.
The woman’s name was not being released Thursday evening, pending notification of next of kin. At approximately 4:55 p.m. Thursday, The Times witnessed a sheriff’s deputy carrying caution tape from his vehicle and taping around the backyard of the residence. Jodi Brannon lives across the street from the residence and stated that the couple that lives in the house is older.
“They’re always working around in the yard,” said Brannon.
Brannon recalled hearing sirens then went outside.
Emergency Medical Services left the scene at 5:05 p.m. and were seen pulling into the parking lot of Smith Northview Hospital.
“She was a 60-year-old, white female,” said Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson.
The coroner said investigators have not yet determined if the cause of death was a drowning.
“I don’t know that the lady drowned. I’m sending her for an autopsy,” said Watson. “We don’t suspect foul play.”
Watson said the woman was accustomed to swimming 20 to 25 laps per night.
“I’m not sure she had a health issue prior to the dip,” said Watson. “There was no trauma to her body.”
