VALDOSTA —
Law-enforcement apprehended two Floridians last weekend and seized more than $55,000 in cocaine, said Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.
The arrests came Saturday evening after the two suspects’ high-speed detour through Lowndes County damaged two cars near the intersection of St. Augustine Road and West Hill Avenue. The Times’ Sunday edition published photographs of wrecked cars following the chase’s conclusion.
It’s the second Lowndes County high-speed chase in recent days that started because the suspects’ windows tint was too dark, and resulted in an assortment of felony drug and traffic violations. The other unrelated chase occurred last Thursday evening.
Regarding the Saturday chase, Prine said it began when the sheriff’s Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) officers attempted to stop a gray Infinity G35 headed southbound on Interstate 75 for possible window-tint violations.
The suspects turned off on Exit 13, heading north on Old Clyattville Road and into the heart of Valdosta. The fleeing vehicle struck a passerby’s car as the suspect sped through the intersection of St. Augustine Road and West Hill Avenue, drove into a gas station parking lot and back out onto the road.
The suspects fled on foot, after crashing into a second vehicle around the 1300 block of St. Augustine Road. The two men were apprehended and transported to the Lowndes County Jail a short while later.
Deputies recovered 556 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $55,600, and 28 grams of marijuana, valued at approximately $280 on the streets, according to the sheriff’s office.
Adrian Cornelius Leary, 33, of Eatonville, Fla., was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and
possession of marijuana, reports stated.
Leary was also reportedly charged with obstruction of a law-enforcement officer, speeding, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, failure to stop at an accident, driving too fast for conditions and failure to stop or yield, according to the sheriff’s office.
Dwayne Lavar Williams, 20, of Orlando, Fla., was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana and obstruction of a law-enforcement officer, according to the sheriff’s office.
