VALDOSTA — A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Lowndes County man Wednesday.
The wreck occurred about 11:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of Old Naylor Road.
Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to the scene, along with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies, emergency medical services personnel and Lowndes County Fire/Rescue firefighters, finding a Dodge pickup that had run off the road and struck a tree.
Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson was also called to the scene. Upon his arrival, he pronounced the driver, Roger Michael Christie, 33, dead.
Watson said that it appears Christie was headed west toward Valdosta when he ran off the right side of the road, tried to correct his truck and then lost control and struck a tree. Christie died on impact and his vehicle was a total loss, Watson said.
Watson said that the victim did not live far from the scene of the accident.
No other details were known at press time.
