VALDOSTA — An altercation at Valdosta State Prison left one inmate hospitalized over the weekend.

The incident occurred Saturday, Oct. 24.

Sharmelle Brooks of the Georgia Department of Corrections Public Affairs Office stated that inmate Ronnie Hodge was involved in an altercation with an unidentified male.

Hodge was subsequently transported to South Georgia Medical Center for the treatment of “puncture wounds to his left shoulder and upper back,” Brooks said.

Although asked, Brooks did not specify what Hodge was “punctured” with, what measures the prison is taking to identify the other inmate or what punishment the unidentified offender faces. She did, however, offer this statement about the altercation: “The incident is being evaluated by our Internal Investigations Unit. No conclusions have been made from the evaluation at this time.”

SGMC Community Relations Director Laura Love said Tuesday that Hodge has been treated and released.
