VALDOSTA — Another violent incident was reported at the Valdosta State Prison over the weekend.
The Georgia Department of Corrections said that an altercation between two inmates on Saturday, Oct. 31 resulted in one inmate being transported to the hospital for observation. The inmate was later returned to the facility.
The incident reportedly involved someone being thrown from a second floor balcony. This information was neither confirmed nor denied by the Department of Corrections.
The altercation is the third known violent incident at the Valdosta State Prison in the past two weeks. On Saturday, Oct. 24, inmate Ronnie Hodge was stabbed while involved in an altercation with an unidentified male. Hodge was subsequently transported to South Georgia Medical Center, treated for “puncture wounds to his left shoulder and upper back,” and released, according to a previous statement from the Department of Corrections.
The next day, Officer Zebedee Hankerson was beaten by at least three inmates while he was on duty.
Hankerson had surgery performed on his eye and has since been released from the hospital. The Department of Corrections has not honored requests for information regarding the incident.
