VALDOSTA — Authorities continue to investigate a weekend altercation that occurred at a Valdosta State University fraternity house.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, Valdosta Police Department officers responded to a call in the 100 block of East Brookwood Drive, reported Lt. Aaron Kirk.
Kirk said that some people entered the Sigma Nu house and assaulted several people in the house — punching them with their fists.
No serious injuries were reported, Kirk said.
“It appears that all involved were students at Valdosta State University,” he added, “but the case is still under investigation.”
Due to Valdosta State University being out on Thanksgiving break, most of the participants in the incident are out of town and not available for investigators to speak to, Kirk said when asked for more information about the incident.
Kirk said it is unclear, at this time, what started the altercation.
Thressea Boyd, assistant to the president for communications at Valdosta State University, said statements at the scene were taken by the Valdosta Police Department and the university’s police.
Valdosta State University’s judicial affairs office will review statements and determine if there are any violations of the student code of conduct, she said.
Hearings will be conducted for those accused of violating the code of conduct or for those who have charges filed by local law enforcement, Boyd said.
No other details were known at press time.
