Census kick-off caravan coming

NASHVILLE — The Berrien County Complete Count Committee is hosting a kick-off caravan on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. The caravan will visit all four municipalities located within the county to kick off the Complete Count effort for the 2010 Census.

“Ensuring that all Berrien Countians are counted during the Census is extremely important,” said Elaine Shiver, county administrator. “Census numbers are used daily throughout our county. Funding of many state and federal programs are based on Census data. Businesses and industries looking to locate in a community look at Census numbers. Getting a complete and accurate count could mean more state and federal dollars for our county.”

The caravan will begin at the County Administrative Building and travel to Alapaha City Hall. From Alapaha the caravan will travel to the Enigma City Hall, and from there the caravan will travel to Ray City. At each stop there will be a kick-off celebration in that community.

“We hope to raise awareness about the importance of the Census and encourage everyone in Berrien County to return their Census form on April 1, 2010,” said Shiver. “The form is 10 simple questions that will take less than 10 minutes to complete.”
