VALDOSTA — Maegan Moore is leaving her mark during her last week in Valdosta.
The graduating Valdosta State University senior is the artist behind VSU President Patrick Schloss and wife Maureen Schloss’ Christmas cards arriving in mailboxes this week.
Moore’s watercolor illustration features the university’s fountain from the angle of a pine bough. On the limb hangs an ornament emblazoned with the year 2009, reflecting the image of West Hall.
Blake Pierce, VSU Art Department head, recommended Moore as the illustrator for the card. Between juggling graduation work, finishing art projects, studying for finals and getting her art ready for the senior show, Moore developed several possibilities for the card’s design.
Upon the design’s selection, Moore prepared 10 watercolor sketches to determine the colors before starting the final project. She had the drafts ready by Oct. 12. The final piece submitted by Nov. 12. Here in the second week of December, the cards are arriving, signed, sealed, delivered.
Moore is scheduled to graduate Saturday with a bachelor of fine arts degree. In studying art, she placed an emphasis on graphics, design, and illustration.
Though she grew up in Covington, her parents, Ronald and Danette Moore, have Valdosta roots. Her maternal grandparents, Gene and Anna Wiseheart, live in Valdosta. Her paternal grandparents, the late Moores, also lived in Valdosta.
After graduation and a holiday with family in Valdosta and Covington, Maegan Moore plans to move to Tacoma, Wash. She has visited the region many times, has friends there, and plans to look for work there.
She will drive to Washington with older sister Danae, who is in the Navy, and younger sister Meredith, who is in high school. She also has a younger brother, Logan.
