Moody kicks off annual cookie drive
MOODY AIR FORCE BASE — Moody Air Force Base is once again holding its annual Airmen Cookie Drive.
Organizer Carrie Koppen said the cookie drive has been going on for at least the past 20 years. Last year’s cookie drive raised 412 dozen, she said.
Koppen is asking anyone who wishes to donate cookies to Moody’s airmen to bring the cookies to the base chapel between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday. She said they will gladly pick up the cookies from those who can’t get to Moody if people will call to let them know.
“One of our biggest contributors is Woodmen of the World,” she said. “They have already donated 78 dozen cookies.”
One of those donating cookies on behalf of Woodmen of the World is a 91-year-old man named Mack, she said, who baked 48 dozen.
“The airmen love the Christmas cookies because they have a certain taste, but we’ll take anything,” Koppen said. “One group is sending us nuts and candies, and we’ll take ribbons, containers — anything cookie related people are generous enough to donate.”
Once all the cookies have been collected, they will be separated into types so all the airmen get a variety, she said.
The cookies will then be delivered to the airmen by the “first shirts,” i.e. the first sergeants, of their respective squadrons.
