Santa to visit library on Friday

VALDOSTA — Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and he is coming to Valdosta this Friday.

As part of the South Georgia Regional Library’s holiday festivities, the man in red will be making an appearance at the Valdosta-Lowndes County Library from 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Santa Claus will be giving away candy canes and allowing parents to photograph their tiny tots on his knee. This is the perfect opportunity to get a picture with Santa without fighting the holiday crowds at the mall.

Visitors are encouraged to sponsor a disadvantaged youth this year by selecting an ornament off the tree displayed in the library’s lobby. Each paper decoration features an item needed by a boy at the North Point Group Home. Most of the requests are for articles of clothing, not toys, and range in price to fit into any budget. Purchased items will be collected at the library.

Those who miss St. Nick on Friday can visit him at the Allen Statenville Library branch at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, during a special Christmas program. Unwrapped toys will be accepted at this branch by anyone wishing to donate to Toys for Tots through the end of the month.

The Salter Hahira Library is hosting its annual Warm with Stories winter reading club. All those interested are encouraged to read 10 books before Dec. 21 for a chance to win prizes.

Everyone is invited to attend the Miller Lakeland Library’s holiday party at 4 p.m. today. The event will feature light refreshments and some seasonal stories.

The South Georgia Regional Library is a system of six libraries serving Lowndes, Lanier, and Echols counties. The system offers a vast selection of reading material and quality programming free of charge to the community. For more information, visit www.sgrl.org or become a fan on Facebook.
