VALDOSTA —
Response to a shooting Saturday afternoon led to a collision between a police vehicle and an ambulance.
At approximately 1 p.m., the Valdosta Police Department received a call that a male victim had been shot in the leg along Rogers Street, Valdosta Police Cmdr. Brian Childress told The Valdosta Daily Times.
A Valdosta police detective responded to investigate what the commander referred to as “a possible altercation” between the victim and a known suspect.
Emergency-medical services also responded to the scene and transported the victim to South Georgia Medical Center. His injury was not believed to be life-threatening, the commander said Saturday.
During this call, a Valdosta police officer, driving a Ford Explorer police vehicle, was traveling through the intersection of Gordon and Ashley. This officer was traveling to the shooting when a Hamilton County ambulance reportedly ran a red light and the two vehicles collided.
No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
Childress said the driver of the ambulance was cited for the traffic violation.
According to the commander, the emergency-medical vehicle did not contain any patients and was not responding to a call at the time of the accident. The ambulance had no connection with the response to the shooting.
