QUITMAN —
A man has been taken into custody and accused of receiving stolen property, valued at more than $17,000, as he awaits sentencing in federal court on charges stemming from the theft and interstate resell of more than 20 firearms, three all-terrain vehicles, a boat and a pickup truck between 2010 and 2011, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Kier Jr., 30, was located at a residence on Goodman Street in Quitman Tuesday through a combined effort of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office and the Quitman Police Department, according to reports.
Kier is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, both felonies, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
A 24-foot K&K Manufacturing flat-bed, goose neck, valued at $8,500, was found at Kier’s family residence in south Lowndes, after being reported stolen to Tift County authorities back in mid February, according to reports. A 32-foot Optima enclosed trailer, valued at $9,000, was also located at the property after being reported stolen to Nassau County, Fla., authorities, according to reports.
Both trailers have been returned to their owner, according to reports.
Last October in federal court, Kier admitted to the October 2010 theft of a Shearwater boat in Marion County, Fla., and selling it in Coffee County; he also admitted to stealing 23 weapons during two burglaries in Echols County between October and November 2010.
He also admitted to stealing a Ford truck in Madison County, Fla., on Christmas Day 2011 which was later found wrecked in Lowndes.
Kier’s codefendants, Troy Sirmans, 46, of Wray, and Cedric Bell, 36, of Valdosta, entered their guilty pleas before Kier. Bell admitted to accompanying Kier on several burglaries and estimated that he’d seen more than $200,000 in stolen goods exchanged between Kier and the other suspect.
