Navy Airman Barron Lovett, a native of Jasper, Fla., is currently deployed aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) which is currently helping the Haitian relief effort.
USS Bataan is presently conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in the wake of the Jan. 12 earthquake. USS Bataan, with its compliment of helicopters, hospital facilities and an embark of Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU 22), makes them well-suited for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response missions.
Airman Barron Lovett is in Aviation Maintenance Administration and is responsible for the clerical duties that keep aircraft maintained and operating. His parents Connie and Jerome Lovett, reside in Jasper.
