VALDOSTA — The latest trends in formal wear will be on display Friday night at Mathis City Auditorium.
The Future Educators Association of Lowndes High School will host a prom fashion show from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium’s multi-purpose room on Friday, Feb. 19.
Tickets are $5 at the door, Angela Crosby, the club’s adviser, said.
Lezlie’s Bridal has provided 30 dresses to be modeled by members of the Future Educators Association and other Lowndes High students and other vendors will be in attendance.
Photographers, florists, a tanning salon and other prom essential vendors will be there.
The event is a fundraiser for the Future Educators Association, she said.
“We figured there is a bridal expo and business expo, why not have a prom expo,” Crosby said.
The funds earned from the event will be used in three different areas, she said.
A portion will be donated to the American Red Cross. Another portion of the proceeds will be used to help cover the cost of a conference the 20 Future Educators Association members plan to attend.
The final portion of the proceeds will help fund the group’s literacy initiative. The group has taken part in the national event Read for the Record, by reading books to local Head Start students, Crosby said.
The group plans to start a book club as well, she said.
The Future Educators Association is a group for students interested in pursuing jobs in education.
Lowndes Middle School also has a Future Educators Association group that will help with the fashion show on Friday.
