VALDOSTA — False checks bearing Valdosta Daily Times account numbers have circulated in the region this week. Times Publisher J.H. “Sandy” Sanders asks businesses to report suspicious checks to police.

Each check appeared as a payroll check. Two checks claimed to be issued by Archbold Home Health Services of Thomasville, using a Times bank account number. These two checks were cashed Monday, Aug. 30.

A third check bears the name of The Times parent company, Newspaper Holdings Inc. South Georgia Media Group. It was cashed Tuesday, Aug. 31.

These checks were cashed at South Georgia businesses. These checks are listed as forged and fraudulent checks.

Each check bears the same female name, with the initials, P.E.C., and is for the same amount of money, $485.88.

Sanders says newspaper employees are urged to cash checks at their respective banks. He asks business owners who receive suspicious checks to contact the Valdosta Police Department, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, or The Valdosta Daily Times.
