LAKELAND —
The Lanier County Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) hosted its first officers meeting on Aug. 10.
The officers began planning the events of the year and prepared for the kick-off meeting held on Aug. 18.
At the meeting, the officers — Brian Woodard, Kevin Spikes, Kelsey North, Cara Robinson, Caleb Douglas, Lauren-Ashley Evans, and Zachary Tichy — and advisers — Emily Bollinger and Susan Schools — discovered many new faces interested in joining.
The first community service project was held on Aug. 23.
Many active FBLA members gathered at Lake Irma Nature Trail to pick up trash. Members have planned a year filled with service projects to help better the community.
Other events planned for FBLA this year include the Fall Motivational Rally at the Perry National Fair, Fall Leadership Conference in Athens, Region Competition in Douglas, and State Leadership Conference in Atlanta. The members hope to add National Leadership Conference and Competition to this list of events. This years NLC is being held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
To allow as many members as possible the opportunity to participate in these events, FBLA has a few fundraisers scheduled. Beginning in the fall, FBLA will sell World’s Finest Chocolate bars for $1 each. In the spring, FBLA has decided to sell 10-pound bags of Vidalia onions for $10 each.
