City of Valdosta remembers Sept. 11

VALDOSTA — The City of Valdosta will conduct a remembrance ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m. inside the apparatus bay of Fire Station No. 1 at 106 S. Oak St.

Mayor John Fretti will preside over the ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day nine years ago and in honor of the continued efforts of public safety professionals.

“We will never forget the lives of those who perished in those deadly attacks of 9-11 and the incredible heroism of the public servants who sacrificed their lives that day,” said Fretti. “We urge the citizens of Valdosta to observe a moment of silence with us on Saturday to remember the fallen, to honor the courage and commitment of public safety professionals, and to give thanks for the freedom we have as Americans.”

Fire Chief J.D. Rice, Valdosta Police Cmdr. Eugene Bell, the combined Valdosta Honor Guard, as well as members of the Valdosta Fire Department and Police Department will be present to honor the innocent victims and brave heroes who perished during the tragic event.

Members of the Valdosta Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corps will perform. There will also be a special flag presentation by the Woodsmen of the World.
