On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the telephone switch at South Georgia Medical Center will be taken down for maintenance at 3 AM. Between 3 AM and 7AM, numbers listed in the telephone directory (land-lines to SGMC) will be non-operational. The hospital’s back-up phone system, ESSX, which operates using a different set of telephone numbers, will be operational.
During the downtime, outside callers will need to dial 229-259-7200 or 229-259-7201 to reach the main switchboard. Switchboard operators will then transfer callers to the ESSX line in the department or area requested. Referring physicians and out-of-town hospitals who are requesting transfers will need to call 229-219-8692. Cell phones and e-mail will be unaffected during the downtime.
“We are planning a four-hour window of time for the upgrade,” said Bob Foster, Chief Information Officer. “We hope to have 75 percent of the phones operational after 4 AM; however, testing and re-establishing the entire switch will take another three hours. We anticipate service disruptions during this time.”
The early morning hours were selected for the downtime because call volume at this time of day is minimal. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
