VALDOSTA —
Valdosta police arrested a man on arson charges Sunday after an early-morning fire that destroyed an apartment following a domestic dispute, according to a police department spokesman.
Police and firefighters responded to a structure fire at Apartment 23 of Lloyd Greer Homes at 1102 W. Gordon St. around 8 a.m. Sunday, according to Cmdr. Brian Childress, Valdosta Police Department.
Lloyd Greer Homes is a set of housing complexes managed by the Valdosta Housing Authority.
While the complex was still intact, the apartment was “a loss,” Childress said.
No one was in the apartment at the time and no one was injured, he said.
Witness interviews by detectives and evidence at the scene led to an arrest, Childress said.
Adrian Wyche, 28, of Valdosta, was charged with arson in the first degree, Childress said.
Additional charges may be forthcoming, though no more arrests are expected, he said.
The fire apparently stemmed from a domestic dispute over the weekend between Wyche and his girlfriend, Childress said.
“Wyche has stayed there (Lloyd Greer Homes) before,” he said.
