Leadership Lowndes accepting nominations for Class of 2011

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — For over 20 years, Leadership Lowndes has been exposing emerging and existing leaders to the challenges, opportunities, strengths, and weaknesses of the community in an effort to build a better Lowndes County. The leadership organization is now accepting nominations for the Class of 2011.

The program, which runs on a calendar year, seeks to develop within these leaders a greater insight and a broader knowledge of the issues that confront the community and state. The meetings are scheduled at different locations throughout the community and consist of a two-day retreat in January, an overnight trip to the state’s capitol in February, and seven full-day programs in March, April, May, June, September, October, and November. Class members participate in a graduation ceremony in December.

The list of Leadership Lowndes graduates is impressive and includes the names of solid community leaders — most of whom credit the organization for exposing them to critical issues and allowing them to respond within their means. Participants develop a network of in-depth relationships with other leaders of various backgrounds and are more prepared to use their individual and collective resources for a greater impact.

An individual must first, however, be nominated for the program by a firm, organization, or an individual. Once an applicant is nominated, he or she will be asked to complete a detailed application, which must be returned to a central location by Oct. 8. Approximately 30 individuals representing a diversity of business, industry, government, non-profits, and other organizations will be selected for the new class, and the names will be announced in November. The Class of 2011 will be invited to a special reception in their honor in December.

All nominations must be received by the Sept. 10 deadline. Additional information may be obtained from the nomination form, which may be downloaded from www.leadershiplowndes.org, or by calling Pam Cartwright at (229) 563-0493.
