Piranhas take home meet

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta YMCA Piranhas ruled their home pool over the weekend.

The Piranhas’ boys and girls swim teams dominated the competition to win the 2011 Piranha Invitational on Saturday.

The Piranhas won the overall competition by 99 points over the Tifton Tidal Waves.

It was a mark of improvement for the Piranhas. Last year, the girls team won and the boys team came in second. This year, both the girls and the boys came in first. The girls team beat Tifton by 61 points to gain first place and the boys team beat Tifton by 38 points to finish in first place.

In the overall competition, Tifton came in second, the Moultrie Sharks were third, the Marianna Marlins were fourth and Douglas was fifth.

The Piranhas had several swimmers finish in the top three in their respective age groups.

Brock Blais came in first in the 6-and-under boys division, Ravyn Marlin came in first in the 9-10 girls division and Kaitlin Sweet tied for first in the 13-14 girls division.

Second place finishers for the Piranhas were: Natalie Savoie (6-and-under girls), Ethan Kolisz (7-8 boys), Evans George (9-10 girls), Ethan Walden (9-10 boys), Cannon George (13-14 boys), Madison Marshall (15-18 girls) and Sam Peters (15-18 boys).

Third place finishers for the Piranhas were: Halley Bennett (7-8 girls), Jacob Eilers (9-10 boys), Danielle Sweet (11-12 girls), Katelynn Keworthy (13-14 girls), Jacob Meyers (13-14 boys) and Olivia Clements (15-18 girls).

“All the kids swam really well,” Piranhas coach Angie Bruhl said. “It was a great meet. The kids used their home pool to their advantage. They all had fun and it was a great day.”
