The Rev. Johnny Lee Brown, age 57, departed from this life on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.
He was born June 22, 1955, in Jasper, Fla. Rev. Brown completed his education in the Lanier County School system and also attended Valdosta State and Georgia Military College. He received the calling from the Lord as a young boy at the age of 11 years old. Rev. Brown was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Valdosta. As a seasoned soldier in the army of the Lord, Rev. Brown preached the word of God for over 46 years and pastored for over 35 years. He commanded such posts at Providence Baptist Church in Hahira (12 years): Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Sparks (12 years); New Hope Baptist Church in Boston, Ga. (6 years); Macedonia Baptist Church in Valdosta (12 years); and New Hopewell Baptist Church in Naylor (11 years). Ever vigilant in God’s will, his ministry included active participation in the Eastern and Western Division Union of the Sough Georgia Baptist Association where he served as Chairman of the Western Division Union for 18 years. He also served as Moderator of the South Georgia Missionary Baptist Association for four years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bishop Coy A. Brown Sr.; mother, Earnestine Brown; and sister, Belinda Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving wife of 38 1/2 years, Norma Jean Brown; two daughters, Jennifer Campbell (Earl) of Shreveport, La., Sonja Johnson (Cedric), Atlanta; one son, Seth Brown (special friend, Damesa), Valdosta; five grandchildren, Daishawn, Daija, Ahmira, Cedric, and Seth Jr.; seven sisters and five brothers, Alice Haynes (Woodrow), Valdosta, Mary Ann Alexander (Willie), Miami, Fla., Coy Brown Jr., Lakeland, Ga., Barbara Alexander (Richard), Miami, Fla., Dennis Brown (Carolyn), Lakeland, Ga., Lillie McCutchin (Mose), Stockton, Earnest Brown, Lakeland, Elder Enoch Brown (Eva), Valdosta, David Brown (Manuella), Weiden, Germany, Sheran Olgesby (Charles) Brewton, Ala., Elizabeth Tutt (Preston), Augusta, Tonya Rosenbaum, San Jose, Calif.; four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Mae Ethel Brown (Bishop Horace), Statenville, James Roberts (Julia Mae), Valdosta, Arletha Waymon (Pastor Arthur), Valdosta, Mary A. Brown (Bobby), Valdosta, Waymon Roberts (Wilma), Valdosta, Jerome Roberts (Lillie), Valdosta, Roger Roberts (Tina), Lake Park; six god children, Merissa Hogan, Hope Brown, Seneshia Stewart, Chad Brown, Vickie White, and Cheatiel Mann; also a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Morningstar Baptist Church. Pastor William C. Morgan is pastor. The Rev. Aaron Hopkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at New Hopewell Baptist Church in Naylor. — Harrington Funeral Home
