James Cleon Copeland

-- — James Cleon Copeland, 83, of Lake Park, Georgia, died 8 September 2012 at Heritage House Nursing Home, Valdosta, Ga. Born 4 September 1929 to Cleon Copeland and Gladys Carter Copeland, James retired from Barnett Bank of Jasper, Fla. James was born in Valdosta and graduated from Georgia Christian School where he met his wife Frances Hinson Copeland. He then attended and graduated from Florida Christian College and started his professional career with the 1st National bank of Asheville North Carolina where he and Frances had moved to after their marriage. After their son was born they moved back to Valdosta and James began working for the First National bank of Valdosta. In 1963 James was recruited by Mr. Claude Crapps of Live Oak Florida to come to work for him at the Hamilton County Bank in Jasper Florida where he worked in various positions before retiring in 1992 as the Vice President and branch manager for Barnett bank of Jasper and in 1994 he and Frances moved back to Lake Park. James Copeland was a founding member and Elder at Lake Park Church of Christ and was very involved as a board member for many years at Georgia Christian School.  

James was preceded in death by his parents Cleon Copeland and Gladys Carter Copeland, his wife of 62 years Frances, his brothers Elliot Copeland of Searcy Aransas, and Raymond Copeland of Plant City Florida.

James is survived by his sister Diane Williams and husband Alton (Al), his Son, James L Copeland and Wife Janet, Daughter, his daughter, Ginger Copeland Knowles and husband Russell, his Granddaughter, Martha Spence and Husband Chad, his Grandsons, Randall Edward Knowles and wife Christine, and Bradley Allen Knowles, Two Great Grandchildren, Paul Blane Spence and Reagan Edward Knowles.

Funeral Services will be held 11 September, 2012 at 11am with at Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, Ga., with Mr. Marvin Greene and Mr. Ronald Carter officiating.  Burial will follow in the Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.  The family request that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to Georgia Christian School or the Lake Park Church of Christ building fund.
