DeWitt T. Frederick Jr.

VALDOSTA — DeWitt T. Frederick Jr., 93, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, in Valdosta.

Graveside service with military honors will be held on today, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Macon, Ga., with the Rev. John Kinser officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to United Hospice, 6060 Lakeside Commons Drive, Macon, GA 31210 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mr. Frederick was predeceased by his wife, Effie Lou Bonds Frederick; his parents, DeWitt Frederick Sr. and Katherine Stone Frederick; two sisters, Frances Smith and Margie Frederick; and a brother, Robert C. Frederick. He lived in Macon most of his life. He graduated from Lanier High School and attended Young Harris College. He was Executive Vice President of Power Oil Company and later owned Frederick Realty Company.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, then continued his military service in the 48th Armored Division of the National Guard, retiring with the rank of Colonel. In his later years, he was instrumental in keeping American Flags on the grave sites of veterans in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Frederick was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mabel Lodge 225, F. and A.M., American Legion Post 3, Scottish Rite and Al Sihah Temple and was past exalted ruler of the Macon Elks Lodge 230. He was a former member of Idle Hour Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Frederick is survived by his sister-in-law, Eloise Smith Bonds of Benson, N.C.; his niece, Nancy Smith of Valdosta; and two nephews, Joseph Bonds Priester of Washington, D.C., and Steve Frederick of Missouri.

His niece would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to Lakehaven Nursing Home in Valdosta, Ga., for their loving care and support of “The Colonel” during the past year.
