Funeral services for Robert Stringer will be Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Pastor C.L. Green Eulogist.
A Time to Be Born: Oct. 1, 1948 in Thomas County to Katie Stringer and Otis Williams.
A Time to Live: Deacon Robert Stringer was a kind and joyful man who loved the Lord and his family. Robert accepted Jesus Christ into his heart and joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church where he served tirelessly with the youth department, as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry and anywhere he was needed. He was educated in the Thomasville City Schools System, played football as a Douglass Lion and graduated in 1968. Robert received a diploma in Masonry from the Swainsboro Area Vocational/Technical School. He worked for Culpepper Construction Company and quickly moved up the ranks to Site Supervisor and lastly as Compliance Coordinator. Dec. 24, 1979, Robert married the love of his life, Cynthia Gail Hopkins. To this union, one daughter, Kimberly, was born. He was also father to Sheila Mike, his eldest daughter. His grandchildren, Kimaan and Allesha and great-grand, Jeremiah, were greatly loved. Robert loved and enjoyed life! He had many names! Whether you called him “Big Robert”, “Shorty”, or “Top”, you knew you would laugh and have a wonderful time when he was near!
A Time to Let Live: He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Cynthia H. Stringer; daughters, Kimberly Stringer, Orlando, Fla., Sheila Mike, Charlottesville, Va.; grandchildren, Allesha Jackson, Ft. Hood, Texas, Kimaan Seigler, Orlando, Fla.; and great-grandson, Jeremiah Jackson, Charlottesville, Va.; sisters, Valerie Newman, Pahokae, Fla., Ernestine Williams, and Sonja Williams, both of Cross City, Fla. Princess Hinton, Glenda McQueen, Emma Lee Williams, all of Valdosta; brother, Johnny Stringer, Thomasville. Cousins, like siblings, Patricia Stringer Newsome, Mydria Stringer, Jr., Larry (Shirley) Stringer, Rev. Glenn Stringer, Fred (Linda) Williams; loving father and mother-in-law, Dea. Ananias and Rosetta Hopkins, Jr.; sister-in-laws, Audrey (Rev. James) Davis, St., Jennifer (Rev. Michael) Hightower, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Rev. Aaron (Diane) Hopkins, Rev. Ananias (Jackie) Hopkins, III, and Anthony Hopkins. Also a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Stringer Thomas, father, Otis Williams, sister: Ruby “Judy” Cline, brother, Richard Moore, uncle and aunt (like parents) Dea. Mydria Stringer, Sr. and Mrs. Helen Stringer; cousin, Robert (Lil’ Robert) Williams.
Public viewing will be held today in Hopkins Mortuary Chapel from 8-6 p.m. and wake from 6-8 p.m. Processional to the church will be Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. from 209 Bay Street. — Hopkins Mortuary, Thomasville.
