Josephine Thomas

-- — Josephine Thomas, 84 of Barney, Ga., formerly of Valdosta,  passed away today, Nov. 2, 2012 at the home of her son, Larry Thomas, where she resided and was cared for until her passing. She was born Oct. 9, 1928 in Perry, Fla. to the late Willie and Eliza (Morgan) McNeice. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Thomas of Valdosta, Ga., and her brothers and sisters.

Though not a current member of a church, she had recently given her heart to The Lord Jesus Christ and was gloriously baptized in a memorable intimate service in her hospital room at South Georgia Medical Center on August of this year. Her grandson, Lawrence Thomas, Pastor of New Convenant in Tifton, Georgia, had the honor of conducting the Special Baptism Service accompanied by family and even some of the staff and nurses. We wish to express our gratitude to them for the respect and support they gave in adding to our celebration.

She and her late husband, Lawrence, operated a small country store, “Lawrence Thomas Grocery & Service Station” and Paint & Body Shop located on Lakeland Highway, Valdosta, where they lived and raised their children until his passing. She later retired from Levi Strauss Co after many years.

She enjoyed sewing, making baby doll clothes, and working in her yards and flowers.

Survivors include her children, two sons, Larry Thomas and wife Pat of Barney, Robert “Wendell” Thomas residing in Fla.; one daughter, Janice Lewis and husband Bill of Barney; grandchildren, Pam NeSmith and husband Ray of Hahira, “Sunny” Cotina Everett and husband Paul of Hahira, Tammie Starling and husband Shane of Donaldsonville, Lawrence Thomas and wife April of Tifton, Dusty Thomas and Finance, Kristie of Barney; great-grandchildren,     Chad and Krystal, Bryce and Baily, Hannah, Lanie and Brynn, Landen; great-great-grandchild, Charlie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 in the Good Hope Baptist Church in Naylor, Ga. with burial to follow in the cemetery. The family will receive family and friends this evening, Nov. 3, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, Georgia 31602.
