David Carl Watkins, Sr., 95, of Valdosta, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Langdale Hospice House. He was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Mr. Watkins enjoyed a long career of farming and serving as produce manager for Harvey’s. He also founded Watkins Music Hall in 1991 and it has been serving Lowndes county for over nineteen years. It gives much pleasure to people every Saturday night. Mr. Watkins was born on September 24, 1914, to the late William Dave and Mamie Elizabeth Wilson Watkins. He was a member of Redland Baptist Church, enjoyed traveling, people, life to the fullest, family and fishing.
Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife, Nora McDonald Watkins of Albany, three sons and two daughters in law, Billy Jack and Elvy Watkins, David Watkins, Jr. Jimmy L., Sr. and Rosemary Watkins of Valdosta, two daughters and one son in law, Faye McElvey of Bonita Springs, Fla.,, Nina and Carl Hackworth of Valdosta, numerous stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wives, Jimmie Lee Southall Watkins and Mildred Wisenbaker Watkins, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 11 a. m. at Redland Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Watkins and the Rev. Tom Ray Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Redland Cemetery. He will lie in state for one hour prior to the service in the church. The family will receive friends Monday from six until eight p. m. at the funeral home.
