VALDOSTA —
Irvin Bennett Jr., 56, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Holly Hill Nursing Home after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 16, 1955, in Valdosta and graduated from Lowndes High School with the Class of 1973. For 30 years, he worked for CSX Transportation and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. Irvin enjoyed his family and friends, and was a loving father, grandfather and son.
He is survived by three sons, Joshua Irvin Bennett and wife Kimberly Nicole Bennett, Joseph Orion Bennett and Shawn Jacob Bennett; two grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Bennett and Logan Cole Padgett; his mother, Eloise Bennett Taylor; and the mother of his children, Berta Bennett, all of Valdosta; several aunts, uncles, nephews and a niece also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Bennett Sr.; stepfather, Hubert (Buddy) Taylor; a brother, Bruce A. Corbitt; and a sister, Judith Ann Edwards.
The family extends their deep gratitude to the staff of United Hospice and Holly Hill Nursing Home for the care given to Mr. Bennett.
The graveside service for Mr. Bennett will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in Sunset Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Mays officiating. Irvin’s family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
