Wayne Mitchell, J.R.
Wayne Mitchell, J.R., 27, of Lakeland passed away at his residence Wednesday Dec. 7, 2005. J.R. was born Aug. 23, 1978 in Las Vegas, Nev. to Wayne and Nuan Mitchell. J.R. was an Auto Mechanic by trade.
Survivors Include his mother and father, Wayne and Nuan Mitchell, Sr., Lakeland, Ga.; three sisters and brothers, Mary Bennett Lakeland, Ga., in-laws, Michelle and Larry Whitmore, Texas, Maelong and John Butler, Ft. Walton Beach; one daughter, Aylissa Marie, Lakeland; grandmother, Roberta Mitchell, Fla.; one uncle, Gary Mitchell, Fla.; one nephew and four nieces.
Funeral services will be held tonight at 7 p.m., Dec. 10, 2005 in Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with visitation beginning at 5 p.m. until service time. The Rev. Bill Watson officiating. William F. Jennings Sr.
William F. Jennings Sr., 75, of Valdosta died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on Jan. 8, 1930, to the late Felix Tillman and Sarah Harvey Jennings and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mr. Jennings was a Baptist and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. He was retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad.
Survivors include three sons, Felix Tillman Jennings IV of Norman Park, David Uriah Jennings of Valdosta and William F. Jennings Jr. of Brunswick; two grandsons, Timothy Tillman Jennings of Norman Park and Tyler Harper Jennings of Ray City; one sister, Ann Simmons of Fayetteville, N.C.; and one brother, James “J.J.” Jennings of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janell Walker Jennings.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, in the chapel of carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Beverlyn Robinson
On Dec. 6, 2005, God called Beverlyn Robinson to rest with Him. She was born April 29, 1958. She was the seventh child born to the late Mr. John A. Thomas and Mrs. Alberta Thomas Irvin.
Beverlyn was a lifelong residence of Lowndes County, Ga. She was a graduate of Lowndes High School and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where she chose nursing as her profession.
She practiced her nursing skills at South Georgia Medical Center, Crestwood Nursing Home and Parkwood Nursing Home until she was disabled by her illness. Beverlyn was a member of the National Nursing Association. She was the core organizer of events that held the Thomas family together. All of her nieces and nephews held her in high esteem because she devoted her time and energy in a caring and compassionate manner. Her nieces and nephews affectionately knew her as “Auntie Bessie.”
Beverlyn dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health began to decline.
She was devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. John A. Thomas, and brother Mr. John Wesley “Pee Wee” Thomas.
She leaves to lament her passing a son, Herschel Robinson; two daughters, Tawanna L. Thomas, and LaToya S. Thomas, all of Valdosta; one granddaughter, Destiny Makala Robinson, Valdosta; a devoted mother, Mrs. Alberta Irvin and step father, Mr. Richard Irvin, Valdosta; three sisters, Mrs. Clemmie Jean Sams, Mrs. Barbara J. Carter (Marcellous), Valdosta, Ms. Alma J. Yusuff, Stone Mountain, Ga.; five brothers, Jimmy L. Thomas (Grace), Jack Thomas (LaVerne), Larry Thomas (Wanda Faye), Paul Thomas, and Billy W. Thomas (Pandora), all of Valdosta; a devoted aunt and uncle, Willie Mae and Luther Thompkins, Madison, Fla.; special friends, Linda S. Hart, Cynthia Peak, Gloria Ector, Creacy Sermons, Wanda Rhym and Sis. Altamese Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005 at Morning Star Baptist Church. Pastor William C. Morgan will officiate. Burial will follow in Pallbearers’ Cemetery. WAYNESBORO, Miss.
John Harold Hobdy, 88, 1701 McInnis Drive, Waynesboro, Miss. 39367, died Dec. 8, 2005, at Southern Living Assisted Living, Waynesboro, Miss.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Waynesboro First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will take place Dec. 11, 2005, in the Waynesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Freeman Parlor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Justin Hobdy Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Federal Savings & Loan in Valdosta.
Born April 29, 1917, in Alabama, he was the son of Edmund Hobdy and Bessie Evans, both of whom preceded him in death. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a postmaster. He was married to Mary John Hobdy of Waynesboro, Miss., who survives.
Mr. Hobdy was a member of Waynesboro First Baptist. There he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He also served as a member of the Wayne County School Board, president of the Lion Club and president of Wayne County Country Club.
Survivors include a son, Cooley (Debbie) Hodby, Valdosta, Ga.; grandsons, John Cooley Hobdy Jr., Valdosta, Ga., and Joshua Patrick Hodby, Valdosta, Ga.; sisters, Francis Browning, McRae, Ga., Neola Hutto, Clara, Miss.; nephew, Alex (Deborah) Green, Valdosta, Ga.; niece, Gwendolyn Churmny, Fredsburg, Md.

James ‘June’ Davis
Funeral services for James “June” Davis, 77, of Quitman will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Simmon Hill Baptist Church in Dixie with Rev. Huewitt officiating. Burial will follow in the North End Cemetery. Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman is in charge of the arrangements.
