Margaret Ellen Pafford Godwin

Margaret Ellen Pafford Godwin, 76 of Adel passed away Sept. 9, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1931, in Cook County to the late Carlie and Lola Crosby Pafford. She lived in Cook County all of her life and was a homemaker and member of Antioch United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Randall Godwin of Adel; one son and daughter-in-law, Durrand and Cynthia Godwin of Adel; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and R.J. Sellers, Moultrie, Karen and Dwight Stalvey, McDonough, Ga., Sherry and Richard Brady, Nashville; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Laquetta and Howard Cason of Albany, Ga.; and a brother-in-law, James Phillips of Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by one sister, Eudora Phillips.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Antioch United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in Antioch Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-9 p.m. at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Hwy. 41 South. — Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Adel.



HAHIRA

Gilbert Mark Jernigan

Gilbert Mark Jernigan, 67, of Hahira, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007. He was born on April 11, 1940, in Harriman, Tenn., to the late Lunie Jack and Hazel Sylvia Graham Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan was retired from the United States Air Force and the United States Postal Service and was a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Gerlinde Jernigan of Hahira; one daughter, Karina Jernigan of Melbourne, Fla.; one son, Ken Jernigan of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Jack Jernigan of Valrico, Fla.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruby Poole of Oliver Springs, Tenn. and Anna Mae and Carl Brill of Dover, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with full military honors. LAWTON, OKLA.

Kenneth Devere Attocknie

Born May 27, 1952, in Lawton, Okla. to Kay Attocknie of Apache, Okla. and Justina Joyce Guy of Fort Cobb, Okla. He was a registered member of the Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma was also an active member of the Caddo Tribe of Oklahoma. He was a direct descendent of Albert Attocknie “Lone Tipi”, the Comanche chief Ten Bears, and the last sub-chief of the Caddo Tribe, Harry Inkinish “Duscut”.

Most of his childhood was spent in Valdosta, Ga., where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior while a member of Calvary Baptist Church. After graduating high school from Chilocco Indian School in northern Oklahoma, he was accepted at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., where he met the mother of his two sons, Rosemarie A. Borjon of San Jose, Calif. The family relocated back to Fort Cobb, Okla., and he eventually received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. After receiving a Master of Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University’s School of Education in Cambridge, Mass., he settled in the New England area where he served native people his entire professional career working for non-profit organizations. He served as executive director of American Indians for Development in Meriden, Conn., and also was a vocational social service coordinator at the North American Indian Center of Boston in Jamaica Plain, Mass.

He passed away Aug. 31, 2007, doing what he loved the most — meeting and talking with native peoples across the United States and Mexico. He was an active singer and frequented numerous powwows and Sun Dance ceremonies. In his spare time he loved to indulge in a game of chess. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He is survived by his two sons, Kenneth Kay Attocknie of Houston, Texas; Michael Dustin Attocknie of Waipahu, Hawaii; three sisters, Kay Attocknie of Okla., Kristina Kelly Roberson of Blackshear, Ga., Kelly-Renee Kelly Stubbs of Valdosta, Ga.; and one granddaughter Malia’ahonui Sawmee Attocknie of Waipahu, Hawaii.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Comanche Nation Funeral Home in Lawton, Okla. Immediately thereafter, committal of ashes will take place at the Comanche Cemetery in Apache, Okla. and Fort Cobb Cemetery in Fort Cobb, Okla. The family will be receiving guests at 2 p.m. at the Caddo Indian Baptist Church in Fort Cobb, Okla.

Mary Inez ‘Ina’ Stone

Mary Inez “Ina” Stone, 85, of Ocala, Fla., and formerly of Moultrie, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Ocala.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Aaron Smith, the Rev. Charlie Simpson and the Rev. Mark Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Mark Stone, Regi Stone, Billy Jack Walters, Craig Britnell, Ricky Griner and Ferrell Ruis.

Born Oct. 12, 1921 in Mitchell County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Elias Simpson and Fannie Estelle Stanford Griner Simpson. Mrs. Stone was a homemaker and attended Riverside Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie James Stone, a daughter, Sylvia K. Stone and a grandson, Jonathan Smith.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Timothy Stone and wife Eveline of Valdosta; three daughters, Delores S. Stone and husband Herbert of Good Hope, Ga., Linda S. Hannah and husband Wayne of Sugar Hill, Ga. and Judy S. Smith and husband Marshall of Ocala; three brothers, Rev. Charlie Simpson of Fitzgerald, Ga., Harold Griner of Tifton and Cecil Griner of Nashville, Ga.; two sisters, Irene Selph and Melba Harnage, both of Nashville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Regi Stone, Ron Stone, Mark Stone, Jan Stone, Wanda Byrd, Sonja Britnell and Aaron Smith; and nine great-grandchildren. PALATKA, FLA.

Hollis H. Powell Sr.

Hollis H. Powell Sr., 77, of Palatka, Fla. died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at the Veterans Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

He was born on May 12, 1930 in Ocilla, Ga. to the late Harvey and Lucille Powell. Hollis joined the Army on July 7, 1948, and was honorably discharged Aug. 6, 1965. During his time in service, he served in the Korean War and many other stations of duty. In 1968, he moved his family to Palatka, Fla., and has been a resident since. He had a great since of humor and loved to fish.

Survivors include his three children, Linda Simmons, Hollis Powell Jr., Lucille Swilley, their spouses, all of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Jenae Davis, James Simmons Jr., Stephanie Swilley, Teresa Williams and their spouses, all of Valdosta; seven great-grandchildren, McKenzie, McKayla and Miranda Williams, Ambrosia and Nataly Davis, Damia and Treyton Swilley, all of Valdosta; brother and sisters, Harvey Powell Jr., Clinton Powell, Heidi Busby, Diane Dent and their spouses and children, all of Valdosta; a very special friend, Hazel Reeves of Palatka, Fla.; along with other friends and family.

Steve Wayne Lammons

Steve Wayne Lammons, 55, of Quitman passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Smith Northview Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Duval Co., Fla., he was the son of John H. and Mae Ceola Koon Lammons. He was a security guard for Advance Security and a member of the Pentacostal faith.

He is survived by his wife Hilda Lammons of Quitman; two children: William Privett and Betty Ann Lammons both of Quitman; three grandchildren; Kimberly, Zoe Grace, Zachery Steven; two sisters; Mary Green of Winter Green, Fla., Myrtie Cowart of Jacksonville, Fla.; five brothers; Johnny Lammons of Jacksonville, Fla., John Lammons of Savannah, Ga., Bob Warren of Mich., Raymond Warren of Lake City, Fla., and Willie Warren of Florida.

Ruthie Mae Jewell

Ruthie Mae Jewell, 69, of Ray City passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at her residence.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1938, in Berrien County to Kizzie Rouse and the late Felder Dupree. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Virgil Jewell who died in 1978 and was preceded in death by a grandson, Jody Rowan.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Rowan of Ray City, Debbie Williams, West Berrien; two sons, Joe Kilpatrick, Nashville, Tommy Kilpatrick, Remerton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Kizzie Dupree, Ray City; two sisters, Gladys Graham, Mary Adams, both of Nashville and two brothers, L.V. Dupree of Nashville and Elton Dupree of Ray City.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Mitchell and Mr. Billy Creech officiating. Interment will be held in Guest Mill Pond Cemetery in Clinch County. Paul H. Davis

Paul H. Davis (Retired SMSGT, USAF.), 74, of Valdosta died at his home after a lengthy illness on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007. He was born in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 5, 1933, to the late Elmer and Lillie Mae Carver Davis. Mr. Davis had been a resident of Valdosta since 1988. He was also a member of Open Bible Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Inge Davis of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Tim Byrd of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Davis, Jr. of Orlando, Fla., Don Davis of Augusta, Doug Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard Davis, David and Anna Davis, Jason and Ansley Davis all of Valdosta; daughters Laura Davis and Carolyn Davis both of Valdosta; and four grandchildren. Mr. Davis is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Richard McCallman of Miami, Fla., Sue and Ernie Beverly of Jacksonville, Fla.; an aunt, Ellene Paulk of Ambrose and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffry Davis.

Ryan Chase Miner

Ryan Chase Miner, 18, of Valdosta, died from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Gulf County, Fla., on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007. He was born in Austin, Texas on Jan. 21, 1989, attended Valwood from 5th through 11th grade, graduated from Valdosta High School, and was attending college in Panama City, Fla. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and surfing. Ryan attended Crossroads Baptist Church and was also a volunteer with the Gulf County Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Susan Miner Wright and Tim Wright; his father and stepmother, Allen and Katie Miner, all of Valdosta; a brother, Reagan Kyle Miner; sisters, Marianne Wright and Marlow Wright, all of Valdosta; grandparents, Jerry and Alice Stephens of Georgetown, Texas, Margaret Miner of Bryan, Texas, Patsy Vaughn of McRae, Charles R. and Mary Lou Wright of Adel, great-grandmothers, Ethel Lou Stephens of San Antonio, Texas and Audrey Larson of Midland, Texas. Ryan is also survived by his uncles and aunts, Mike and Cay Miner of Bryan, Texas, David Stephens of Austin, Texas, Chris Steverson of Douglas, Charlie Wright of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and several other aunts, uncles, cousins and many other people that he touched and were special friends who loved him.
