Betty Crosby Asbell

VALDOSTA — Mrs. Betty Crosby Asbell, 81, of Morven, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her residence. Mrs. Asbell was born Jan. 18, 1932, to the late Jim “J.T.” and Louise T. Crosby. She was a member of Morven Baptist Church, Morven Mothers Club, and Charter member of the Capt. James Monroe Briggs UDC.

Mrs. Asbell enjoyed working with her flowers and cheering for the Lowndes High Vikings and Georgia Bridgemen. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and big sister. She was named Big O’Mama by her first grandchild, Carla Dell Asbell-Carter, and was called Big O’Mama by all of her babies that followed.

 Survivors include her children, Lemuel Thomas Asbell of Morven, Linda Jean and Jody Hall of Valdosta, Richard Dell Asbell of Morven, Kenneth Michael and Mae Asbell of Morven, Betty Lynn Asbell of Morven, and Anthony Paul Asbell of Morven; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Danny Ray “Boogie” and Phyllis Crosby of Quitman.

Mrs. Asbell was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lemuel “Bo” Asbell; daughter, Barbara Ann Carney; brothers, Herbert Gene Crosby, Jimmy Norwood Crosby, and Layton Wayne Crosby; one sister-in-law, Margaret Crosby.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Morven Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Scarborough and the Rev. Clarrence Rolling officiating. Interment will follow in Campground Cemetery in Morven. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home in Quitman.
