Aubrey J. “Ton” Harris

-- — Mr. Aubrey J. “Ton” Harris, age 84, was born to Tom T. Harris and Estelle Hunter Harris in Mineola, Georgia and raised in Valdosta, Georgia.  He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the state of Georgia for many years before he became disabled.  He loved the outdoors and was well known for his love of fishing.  He loved to display his fishing skills at Steinhatcher in Swannee, Florida.  He lived his life of the Baptist faith. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.  

He leaves to cherish his memories; his children, Jackie Harris Flowers, Hahira, Ga., Ken (Donna) Harris of Gainesboro, Tenn., Deborah (Danny) Sapp, Leslie Harris (Tony Brown), Shane Harris, Jordan Harris, all of Quitman, Ga. Anita (Danny) Stinson, Dublin, Ga., Betty Cawley and Lucretia Noll, both of South Carolina.  His also leaves to mourn his wife, Susan Harris of Baxley, Ga.  He is survived by one brother, Murray Harris and four sisters, Christine Dennis, Mary Linahan, Shirley Vallee of Valdosta, Ga., and Lucy Grover of McDonough, Ga.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom T. Harris and Estelle Hunter Harris, two brothers and two sisters: T.J. and Dorothy Harris, Roy Harris, Ruth Morgan and Vivian Lehman, a son, Aubrey Harris Becton, his granddaughter, Kristy Harris Kelly. Three nephews, Jimmy Harris, Tommy Harris, and Leland Lirahan, two nieces, Caroline Bellew and Tamela Vallee also preceded him in death.  He is survived by sixteen grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.  He leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10 A.M. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, Ga., with Pastor Steve Shierling, officiating.  Visitation and Wake services will be held Friday, June 8, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. at the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Chapel in Quitman, Ga.  — Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home.
