Catherine Elizabeth Simmons Miller

-- — Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Simmons Miller, 81, was born Sept. 20, 1931 in Brooks County; the fourth child of the late Rev. W. H. Simmons, Sr. and the late Mamie T. Manor Simmons.

At an early age, she joined Dillinoy C.M.E. Church and was baptized. Mother Miller served in all capacities in the church. She was a dedicated, faithful and loyal member until her death.

She gave advice to all and spoke her mind while doing so.  She embraced many, many children whom she incorporated into her very own family.

In addition to her parents, Mother Miller was preceded in death by her husband, the late Hoyte Miller, Sr.; four children, Hoyte Miller, Jr., Mamie Louise Miller Wright and two still born children; two sisters, Janie (Otis) Miller and Virginia Dean; and two brothers, James F. (Fannie) Simmons and Willie H. Simmons, Jr.

Mother Miller leaves cherished memories with her children; Laverne (Joe) Smallwood, Rev. J. B. (Thelma) Miller, Lula (Samuel) Clemons, Sr., Carolyn (Allen) Nelson, Ernest (Beverly) Miller, Sr., Brenda F. Miller and Katryna (Henry) Grisson, Jr.; one son-in-law, Martin Wright and daughter-in-law, Janice Sims Miller Walker; a special friend and sister-in-law, Annie M. Simmons; she has a quiver of 27 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two living sisters, Laura Townsend and Maxine (Julius) Clark; one brother, Charles (Jeanette) Simmons, Sr.; one brother-in-law, J. D. Dean, Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and adopted children, other relatives and many friends.

Her family will always remember her favorite motto; “Each child answers in its own place” and her favorite saying “You Gotta Be Real”.  She will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Morven City Auditorium, in Morven with Rev. James B. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery in Morven. Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. — Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home
