VALDOSTA —
Elbert Alton Combs, 72, of Lake Park, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at his home. He was born on Sept. 17, 1939, in Taylor, Fla., to the late Russell and Corene Raulerson Combs and had lived in this area since June of 1979. Mr. Combs was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired as a supervisor with the Parks and Recreation Department in Jacksonville, Fla. He also had worked for 20 years at Dowling Bag Company.
Mr. Combs loved to fish, hunt and NASCAR. He also loved spending time with his family and his church family.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn McLane Combs of Lake Park; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shellie Combs of Lake Park, Sheila and Robert McMullen of Lake Park, Sherry and Kenny Hammock of Clyattville, Susan and Chris Smith of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Chelsea Hammock, Ethan Hammock, Logan Hammock, John Beville, Kayla Beville, Luke Beville, Dalton Smith, Parker Smith and Zane Smith; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis and Mary Combs of Taylor, Fla., Lonnie and Nina Combs of Lake City, Fla., Wendell and Janice Combs of Taylor, Fla., Donald Neil and Kay Combs of Macclenny, Fla.; one sister, Lavonne Baxter of Starke, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, 550 Long Pond Road, Lake Park, Ga., with Brother Carlton Allen, Brother Steve Ward and Brother Robbie Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA 31602.
