Harvey Lamar Wilson Jr.

-- — Harvey Lamar Wilson Jr. of Valdosta,  died Wednesday Oct., 10, 2012, at the home of his parents Harvey Lamar Wilson, Sr. and Amelia Adams Wilson, Harmony Road, Eatonton, Ga., following a brief illness. He was 56 years old.

Services were held Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Eatonton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Kitchen, and the Rev. Tom Tippett officiating. The Rev. Keithen Tucker, pastor, also participated in the services. Ashford Wilson, Harvey’s son, standing with his sister Ellen, delivered a heartfelt testimonial sharing childhood memories centered on his father’s love for his children.

Known for his easy smile and quick sense of humor, Harvey graduated from Gatewood School, Eatonton, in 1974. He attended Sewanee University of the South where he made the Dean’s List, North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Ga., and Georgia College and State University, Milledgeville. While at Georgia College, he served as president of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and according to his brothers, through the years was their “reunion organizer”. Harvey counted his wealth in people, he had many friends.

Harvey enjoyed writing both “observations” as he called them and short stories some of which he chose to publish. He also found pleasure in his art.

Aside from his parents and two children, he is survived by his sister Ame (Chuck) Haley of Eatonton; a nephew Wil Haley, and two nieces Ferrell, and MacKay Haley.

Pallbearers were Chip Walker, John Walker, Cary Alexander, Curtis Lewis, Arturo Rodriguez, David Strickland, and Roberto Bejarano.

Twenty of his PKA brothers served as Honorary Pallbearers.

Burial was at Pine Grove Cemetery in Eatonton.

Expressions of Sympathy may be made to a Scholarship fund C/O Pi Kappa Alpha at the Peoples Bank of Eatonton in Memory of Harvey Wilson, Jr.
