Thomas Scott Sr.

-- — On Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, an angel stopped at 207 Windsor Street, Valdosta, Ga., and sealed the lips of our loved one. His soul took flight from this world of sin, sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest. He made this transition from home surrounded by his devoted, caring and loving family.

Thomas Scott Sr. entered this life on Feb. 2, 1936, in Sparta, Ga. (Hancock County) to the love and nurturing parentage of the late Beatrice Cobb and the late Nathaniel Scott.

Thomas was united in holy matrimony to the late Emma Mae Scott, who was a loyal and dedicated wife for 51 years, and to this blessed union seven daughters and one son were added.

Emma departed their earthly home on Oct. 17, 2005, and as an ultimate symbol of the love and strength of their union, Thomas went to join his wife in their heavenly home on the same date, Oct. 17, 2012.

As we yield to the will of the Almighty God, they both will also share the same Homegoing Celebration Service date of Oct. 23.

Thomas was a baptized believer in Christ and member of the Body of New Hope Baptist Church, Valdosta, Ga., the Rev. Aaron Hopkins pastor.

He had a great passion for fishing, loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and was also known for the love and caring of his best buddy and canine companion, Benji. His generous heart, quick easy smile, no-nonsense spirit, but sincere friendship transcended gender, race, social status and age. He had many friends and was loved and respected by all.

He was employed with Bathcraft, Valdosta, Ga., and retired following more than 30 years of exemplary and dedicated service.

Thomas’ physical presence will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the community.

He leaves to cherish his memory and lament his passing his loving children, Patricia (David) Wells, Barbara (Ernest) Garland, Edith S. Brown, Cynthia S. Johnson, Thomas Scott Jr., Valdosta, Ga., and Angela (Luis) Lora of Okinawa, Japan; 22 equally loving grandchildren; 28 precious great-grandchildren; brothers, C.S. Lewis, Linton Cobb and Joe Scott of Sparta, Ga.; son-in-law, Theodore Demps, Valdosta; sisters-in-law, Mary (Robert) Williams, Valdosta, Sarah Robinson, Atlanta; extended family Hal Mack, Deborah Fields, Aissa Duncan; and a multitude of loving, caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Thomas was predeceased by his daughters Mary Scott Demps and Jannie L. Ashley; a sister, Dorothy M. Lamar; a brother, Edward Robinson; and a great-granddaughter, Marshantis Aaliyah Brown.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 709 W. Gordon St., Valdosta, Ga., the Rev. Aaron Hopkins pastor and officiant. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The Scott family will receive and welcome friends on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Harrington Funeral Home chapel. — Harrington Funeral Home Inc.
