VALDOSTA —
John Thomas Pitcock, 65, of Quitman and formerly of Valdosta, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his residence. He was born on March 30, 1947, in Valdosta to the late John Cullum Pitcock and Mary Alice Davis Pitcock. Mr. Pitcock was a school teacher, a football coach and basketball coach at Valdosta Middle School. He was a Wildcat fan and a Georgia Bulldog fan. Mr. Pitcock loved his family, his dogs and his horses. He loved to work, loved visiting Waffle House, talking to people and telling stories. Mr. Pitcock never got in a hurry. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Pitcock was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nina Anderson Pitcock of Quitman; his son and daughter-in-law, John Wilton and Mandy Barfield Pitcock of Summerville, S.C.; his daughter, Allison Maesha Pitcock of Valdosta; his grandson, John Mason Pitcock of Summerville, S.C.; his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald Lee Pitcock Sr. and Jadan Altman Pitcock of Valdosta; his nieces and nephews, Phillip and Pinckney McGhin and Danielle Pitcock; several great-nieces, nephews and cousins; his mother-in-law, Mae Anderson of Valdosta; and his sister-in-law, Sandra Anderson of Atlanta. Mr. Pitcock was preceded in death by his parents; father-in- law, Alfred Wilton Anderson; and nephew, Ronald Lee Pitcock Jr.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite pet charity.
