Shellie Theodora Williams-Gaines

--- — A Time To Be Born: Mrs. Shellie Theodora Williams-Gaines, 96, of Valdosta was born Nov. 30, 1915 to the late Mrs. Ida Beatrice Stafford-Williams and the late Mr. Enoch Javan Williams of Valdosta.

A Time to Live: Mrs. Gaines was united in holy matrimony to the late Peter Richard “P.R.” Gaines in Sept. of 1937.

A Time  To Serve: Mrs. Gaines attended Lowndes County public schools and graduated from Dasher High School in 1936. At the age of 10, she joined Mt. Vienna AME Church. She and her sisters, “The Williams Sisters”, would often sing on many programs all around the community. Since Mrs. Gaines was the oldest sibling, it was also her job to attend the note-singing practices, then return to teach the songs to other family members. That was one of the highlights of her youth.

Mrs. Gaines was a Licensed Practical Nurse who dedicated her life to the care of others at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla., Smith Hospital in Hahira, and Moody Air Force Base Hospital in Valdosta. After retiring, she became a foster parent to many children and care-giver to both her mother and father when their health began to fail. As a dedicated church member, she served on the Stewardess Board, The Willing Workers, The Senior Choir, the  Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) and was a Church Class Leader.

A Time To Die: On Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 1:50 a.m., God called her from labor to reward.

Mrs. Gaines leaves to mourn two sisters, Frednell Gladys Williams-Coleman and Beatrice Williams-Taylor both of Valdosta; one brother, Lafayette Douglas Williams, Sr. (Doris) of Atlanta; Mrs. Gaines had no children of her own, but she and her husband raised Robert Isaiah Gaines (Patricia Frey); Robert’s children are Richard Gaines, Jonathan Gaines and Robert Gaines; one aunt, Mrs. Marie Stafford of Quitman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. Special thanks to the employees of Heritage Healthcare Nursing Home, Dr. Larry Smith, and the employees of South Georgia Medical Center of Valdosta who helped provide care for her during her illness.

Servant, Well Done! Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Vienna AME Church . The Rev. Roy Brown, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. — Scott And Roberts Mortuary
