VALDOSTA —
Mary Coody Foster, 78, of Valdosta died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Heritage Healthcare following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 2, 1934, in Valdosta to the late Richard and Mattie Zipperer Coody and had been a resident of this area all her life. She retired as a nutritionist with the Lowndes County School System and was a member of Redland Baptist Church. She loved to garden, and was an avid fisherman. She was also a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Foster LaGrange and Perry LaGrange of Rocky Mount, N.C., Nancy and Steve Shiver of Valdosta; granddaughters and their spouses, Darenda and Josh Proctor of Rocky Mount, N.C., Micki and Eddie Scarborough of North Bend, Ore., Jennifer and Jeremy Gordon of Rocky Mount, N.C., Ashli and Derrik Butler of Valdosta and Amber and Kraig Whitmer, also of Valdosta; 11 great-grandchildren, Tyler Scarborough, Casey Proctor, Cierra Scarborough, Caitlin Proctor, Kendall Proctor, Caleb Proctor, Aden Gordon, Brandon Butler, Lane Butler, Bralin Dykes and Kinsley Whitmer; two sisters, Lavinia Hammock and Maxine Cothron of Valdosta; a sister-in-law, Gladys Coody; and a brother-in-law, Clair Fletcher; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Foster; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Service for Mary Coody Foster will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
