Mary Crum Pinkston

VALDOSTA — Mary Crum Pinkston, 86, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Heritage House Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Valdosta, a daughter of the late John Cranford Crum and Verna Lillian Howell Crum. She graduated from Valdosta High School, Georgia State Women’s College, and from Valdosta State College with a Master’s degree in Education. Mrs. Pinkston began her teaching career in Lanier County, later working with Lowndes County Schools, retiring as Curriculum Director.

Mrs. Pinkston was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing with the choir. She was also a member and Past President of the Valdosta Elks Lodge No. 728 Auxiliary. She loved children and enjoyed camping and cooking. Her door was always open for those that needed a resting place, no matter the length of time.

Her husband of 67 years, Robert S. Pinkston, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jimmy LeFiles; one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Pinkston; one son-in-law, Gerald Godair, all of Valdosta; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily Godair; and a sister, Hilda Crum McElvey.

Funeral service for Mrs. Pinkston will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Moon officiating. Private interment will take place in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
