She was married on July 1, 2000, to W. Calvin Smith; they have two children, Joshua Carter, born in 2003, and Jackson Thomas, born in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her father, L. Inman Grimsley, Jr., her brother L. I. (“Trey”) Grimsley, III, and her grandparents, Julian and Alma Lovett of Valdosta and L. Inman and Aline Grimsley of Albany, Ga. In addition to her husband, children, and mother, she is survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William H. and Susan D. Smith of Flowood, Miss.; her uncle and aunt, Don and Linda Parton of Albany, Ga.; her aunt, Carol Grimsley Bentley of Knoxville, Tenn.; her brothers and sisters-in-law Jeremy Smith and Terry Smith of Jackson, Miss.; Daniel Smith of Jackson, Miss.; Philip and Sara Smith of Marion, Ark.; and Joel and Rachel Smith of Fayetteville, N.C.; and her 10 nephews and nieces.

Kim and her family were founding members of Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Southwest Roanoke County. She was active at her church, at Faith Christian School, and with the Virginia Blue Ridge Chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Visitation with the family will be held at Oakey’s Funeral Home, South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke, VA, on Monday, November 12, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Following a private burial at Evergreen Burial Park, a memorial service and reception will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at Cave Spring Baptist Church, 4873 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke, VA.

The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and other staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, the Oncology/Cancer floor at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice, as well as all the friends, co-workers, and others who provided meals, childcare, and other help, and all those who have lifted up our family in prayer during this difficult time. Kim has reached the end of her earthly journey, and, while we grieve her absence from us, we rejoice that she is now with Christ and the multitude of her heavenly family that preceded her, and we look forward to that great day when we are reunited with her and when God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”  Rev. 21:4 (ESV).

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Oakey’s Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kim’s memory to the building fund of Christ the King Presbyterian Church, to Faith Christian School, or to the Virginia Blue Ridge Chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. — Oakey’s Funeral Home, Roanoke, Va.
