Travis Exum
Travis Exum, 63, of Nashville, died Saturday June 17, 2006, in the Berrien County Hospital.
He was born June 29, 1942, in Berrien County to the late Willie Ivey Exum and Eva Simms Exum. He was a mechanic and worked at Nashville Mills. He was a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived in death by three daughters, Anna Howell, Elaine Garner and Shannon Holbrook, all of Nashville; mother, Eva Simms Exum, of Nashville; two sisters, Coot Stone of Nashville and Faye Kicklighter of Glennville; one brother, Waugh Exum of Roanoke, Ala.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Exum and the Rev. Jessie Dasher officiating. Burial will follow at Flat Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 7–9 p.m. in the Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville.
VALDOSTA
Virginia Louise Branan
Virginia Louise Branan, 68, passed away at her home in Valdosta on June 16, 2006, following a long illness.
She was born Nov. 25, 1937, to the late George and Margaret McKissick in Coral Gables, Fla. She followed her lifelong passion for teaching, receiving degrees in education from the University of Florida and Valdosta State College. She married John Branan in 1957. They moved to Valdosta in 1966, where she taught school at Sallas-Mahone Elementary School from 1966 through 1968 and Pine Grove Elementary School from 1972 through 2000. She was named Lowndes County Teacher of the Year in 1979.
Virginia was very active in the community. She served in leadership roles for several organizations, including past-President of the Valdosta Unitarian Universalist Church and the American Association of University Women. She was also an active member of the Valdosta Business and Professional Women, the Lowndes Democratic Party and the Lowndes Association of Educators. For many years she was involved with the Religious Education program at the church.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Branan, in 1992. She is survived by her husband, Dr. John M. Branan, professor emeritus of psychology at Valdosta State University. Other survivors include her son, John Jr., daughter-in-law, Jil, and grandsons Kenyon and Steve, all of Sharon, Mass; sister,Jean McKissick and Kerry Williams of West Palm Beach, Fla; brother, George McKissick of Tampa, Fla; brother-in-law, Roger Branan and his wife Barbara of Jacksonville, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service celebrating her life will be led by the Rev. Jack Ford, Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at 6 p.m. at the Valdosta Unitarian Universalist Church, 1951 East Park Avenue. – Music Funeral Services, Valdosta.

Louella C. Dixon
Louella C. Dixon, 63, of Valdosta, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Specialty Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
She was born on April 7, 1943, in Nashville to the late George W. and Lena Faulkner Williams. Ms. Dixon was a homemaker and a member of Azalea City Church of God.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Harrington of Jacksonville, Fla., Dee Dee Williams and her husband, Willie Williams III, of Valdosta; one son, Gerald Dixon and his wife, Nichole Jahn-Dixon, of Valdosta; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Flonnie Boyles of Thomasville; one brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Mildred Williams of Lake City, Fla.; and was preceded in death by two brothers, Perry and Leo Williams.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19, 2006, at 2 p. m. at the Azalea City Church of God with the Rev. Raymond Gabbard officiating. Burial will follow at Fellowsip Cemetery in Cook County. She will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6–8 p. m. today at the funeral home. David G. Harrison
David G. Harrison, 60, of Valdosta, died on Friday, June 16, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center after a long illness.
Born on Oct. 4, 1945, in Waycross, he was the son of the late Ferman E. and Bertha Mae Geiger Harrison. He was a newspaper reporter and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Robert Cline of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Becky Harrison of McDonough; one granddaughter, Mary Harrison of McDonough and two grandsons, Matthew Smith of Valdosta and Charlie Harrison of McDonough.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Lance Kindred officiating.
