Doris Cromer Porter

VALDOSTA — Doris Cromer Porter, 84, of Valdosta, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at Heritage House Nursing Home. Born in Tifton on Sept. 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Felton Pearman Cromer. Mrs. Porter was a wonderful Christian woman, devoted to God and her family. She truly touched the lives of everyone around her with her sweet and thoughtful ways. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking and eating with family and friends. She was a dedicated member of TOPS #GA38. Mrs. Porter was a member of Swilley Hill Church of God and attended First Assembly of God. She will be missed by all that knew her here on earth but will be a treasure in heaven.

Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Randy Courson of Jesup, Donna and David Nolan of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Susan Porter of Valdosta, Don and Gina Porter of Ray City, Aaron and Duelza Porter of Atlanta, Weyman and Molly Porter of Valdosta, Ken and Maria Porter of Atlanta; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Evans Locke of Chula, Marie Hammond of Edgefield, S.C., Cheryl Hutchison; brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Carol Cromer of Aiken, S.C.; grandchildren, Tanya (Jason) Bridges, David Nolan III, Greg (Delvonna) Porter, Olivia (Jay) Carter, Carlynn (Ricky) Appelt, Jamie Porter, Jason (Hope) Porter, Amber (Nick) Hryzan, Andy Porter, Evan Courson, Morgan Courson, 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Alton Corbett; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frazier and Hiawatha Porter; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and John Miller, sisters-in-law, Yvonne Porter, Betty Lewis, Lavenia Harrell; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Bernard Porter; great-grandson, Alex Hryzan; brother, Edward Cromer; sisters, Christine Frier and Mary Cromer; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Linwood Porter, Chuck Harrell, Efford and Bernestine Culpepper.   

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Greer will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
